Accounts & payments

Sign-in, roles, subscriptions and billing, with access limited to what each person needs.

What do accounts and payments involve?

Accounts and payments are the parts of an app that decide who can sign in, what each person can see and do, and how money is taken: subscriptions, one-off payments, trials, upgrades and refunds. Card details stay with the payment provider, never in your application.

What problem do proper accounts and payments solve?

Getting accounts and billing wrong is expensive in quiet ways. A customer sees another customer’s data, a failed payment never gets retried, or a plan change charges the wrong amount, and revenue stops matching what the system says.

Designing roles and billing around how you actually charge prevents that. Everyone sees only what they should, payments reconcile, and the awkward cases, such as failed cards, refunds and cancellations, are handled before launch.

What you get

Secure sign-in, clear roles and dependable billing: subscriptions, one-off payments and usage limits that reconcile.

Accounts & payments

What’s included

  • Sign-up, sign-in and password recovery

Secure accounts, with recovery that doesn’t need a phone call to you.

  • Roles and permissions

Customers, staff and admins each see and do only what they need, enforced on the server, not just hidden in the interface.

  • Subscriptions and one-off payments

Plans, trials, upgrades, downgrades and cancellations that match how you charge.

  • Usage limits and plan changes

Limits per plan, and changes that take effect correctly mid-cycle.

  • Failed payments and refunds

Retries, reminders and refunds tested before launch.

  • Audit trail

A record of important changes, so you can see who did what and when.

Who needs accounts and payments

A good fit for

  • Subscription products. Monthly or yearly plans that customers manage themselves.
  • Platforms with customer and staff roles. Different people, different access, one system.
  • Businesses taking payments online. Bookings, orders or memberships paid for in the app.

Probably not the right fit if

  • You take a handful of payments a month. A payment link or invoice may be enough.
  • Everyone who uses the system needs the same access. Simple sign-in will do.
  • You only need a contact or booking form on a website. See website development.

How it works

How it works

  1. 01

    Define who can do what

Roles, permissions and the actions that need a record.

  2. 02

    Build billing around the model

Plans, trials, upgrades and cancellations that match how you charge.

  3. 03

    Test the edge cases

Failed payments, refunds and plan changes checked before launch.

How long do accounts and payments take to build?

They’re built as part of an app’s first version, which usually takes 8–12 weeks. The edge cases, such as failed payments, refunds and plan changes, are tested before launch rather than discovered after.

How much do accounts and payments cost?

An app’s first version includes secure sign-in for one type of user plus an admin, and one integration such as payments. Extra user types are add-ons, included in the same fixed quote.

Questions

About accounts & payments

Can customers manage their own subscriptions?

Yes. Customers can upgrade, downgrade, update payment details and cancel without contacting you, if that suits your model.

Is payment data stored in our system?

No. Card details are handled by the payment provider, not stored in your application, which keeps your security obligations much smaller.

What happens when a card payment fails?

The system retries, tells the customer and limits access according to rules you choose, so failed payments don’t silently turn into free accounts.

Can staff see customer accounts?

Only as far as their role allows. For example, support staff might see a customer’s plan and history without being able to change billing.

Can we offer free trials?

Yes. Trials, introductory pricing and discount codes are set up to match how you sell.
